Ben-e-fics
/ˈbɛn.ə.fɪks/
Planets considered to be promoters of good fortune, positive outcomes, and ease. This term most commonly and primarily refers to the planets Jupiter (the Greater Benefic) and Venus (the Lesser Benefic). Other planets, such as the Sun, Moon, or Mercury, may be classified as functionally benefic depending on their condition or role within a specific chart.
The term Benefics comes from the Greek agathopoisos, meaning "one who produces good." In traditional astrology, Jupiter and Venus are inherently inclined to signify positive matters: Jupiter bestows largesse, growth, and fortune, while Venus governs pleasure, affection, and harmony. When a Benefic is well-placed or well-aspected, its positive influence on the native's life is enhanced. Conversely, a Benefic that is poorly placed (e.g., in the Sixth or Twelfth house or afflicted by a Malefic) may struggle to deliver its full positive potential. Understanding the nature and condition of the Benefics is crucial for assessing potential ease, grace, and opportunities in a natal chart.
