Bonification

Bon-i-fi-ca-tion

/ˌbɑː.nə.fəˈkeɪ.ʃən/

The process by which a planet's favorable significations are enhanced, or its unfavorable significations are lessened, through specific aspectual relations, zodiacal dignities, or beneficial house placements. This term is derived from the Greek agathunō, meaning "to make benefic."

Bonification describes any condition that "makes good" a planet's influence in a chart. The most direct form of bonification occurs when a planet is well-aspected by one of the Benefics (Jupiter or Venus), such as by a trine or sextile, which effectively supports and improves the planet's function. Additionally, a planet is bonified when it is placed in a sign where it has essential dignity (like its Rulership or Exaltation), or when it is located in one of the Good Bodies or Places (e.g., the First, Fifth, or Eleventh houses). For astrology students, recognizing bonification is key to understanding where the native experiences ease, support, and fortunate outcomes, as it highlights planets and life areas that receive a positive lift.
