Almuten

al-mu-ten
Phonetic: /ælˈmjuː.tən/

In Medieval astrology, the Almuten is the planet holding the greatest essential dignity in a specific degree, house, or chart position.

The term comes from Arabic astrological tradition and became central to Medieval astrological judgment. The almuten is determined by calculating which planet possesses the strongest combination of dignities, such as domicile, exaltation, triplicity, terms, and face, at a given point in the chart. Medieval astrologers used the almuten to identify the planet with the greatest authority and influence over a matter. Almuten calculations were especially important in natal interpretation, longevity techniques, and assessments of planetary strength.
