Timing with Planetary Periods

The planets' cycles are foundational building blocks to many astrological techniques and their fingerprints are found in some of the most popular methods for timing events.

The 2nd century astrologer Vettius Valens described a timing technique that uses a planet's synodic recurrence cycle, usually known as the minor or lesser years of a planet, to time a planet's activation.

Understanding these encoded cycles reveals a cornerstone for when to expect the seeds of the natal promise to come to fruition in one's life. Using Book VII of Valens' Anthology as our guide, we will shed light on this technique, learn how to apply it using chart examples, and consider the cyclic and fractal nature of time.
