Queer Chart Signatures in Hellenistic Astrology with Elly Higgins

In this episode of HelleVision, Elly Higgins, the creator and host of the Star Gays podcast, is interviewed by Kepler College faculty Joey Cannizzaro about the chart signatures tied to queer sexuality in ancient astrological texts. Drawing on the works of Dorotheus, Valens, and Firmicus, they explore how sexuality and gender were culturally understood in antiquity, not as categories of fixed identity but reflections of human desire and behavior in a constant state of flux. Looking at how ancient astrologers recognized queerness in the stars shows us how they would draw complex and nuanced stories out of the natal chart through the art of evaluating planetary condition and how we might do that in our own readings. Crucially, studying the ancient astrological approach to gender and sexuality can also open up new pathways for understanding and opposing marginalization and persecution when we're working with natal charts today.
