In this episode of Let's Talk AstroMapping, Cindy McKean speaks with Lori Barnes about shadowed planets, psychological insight, and the role of lived experience in AstroMapping astrology consultations.
Lori Barnes, licensed psychotherapist, professional astrologer, and Kepler College faculty member, explains why chart interpretation alone may not be enough in client work. She discusses how shadowed planetary patterns may emerge through conversation, emotional history, behavior, and the perception of the client experience. She discusses the importance of asking questions before and during the session to better understand the client's lived experience so you can apply the astrology to the human being you are consulting.
Together, Cindy and Lori explore how these patterns can be recognized in practice, drawing on the work of Jim Lewis and extending those ideas into modern consultation work. They discuss AstroCartoGraphy and Local Space as tools that can support clients in understanding place, personal history, and the psychological themes connected to relocation and environment.
This conversation addresses astrology, psychological awareness, ethical client work, and mental health boundaries, offering a grounded look at how astrologers can work with greater skill, insight, and responsibility. Lori teaches this material at Kepler College in the course 'Applied AstroPsychology for AstroMapping.'
