Bound, bounds

bound, bounds
Phonetic: /baʊnd, baʊndz/

In Medieval astrology, bounds are unequal divisions within each zodiac sign assigned to planetary rulers and used to assess dignity and planetary authority.

This doctrine was inherited from Hellenistic astrology and preserved throughout Medieval astrological practice. Each sign is divided into several sections, or bounds, ruled by different planets according to established systems such as the Egyptian Terms. A planet placed within its own bounds was considered to gain additional strength and capacity to act effectively. Medieval astrologers used bounds in natal, horary, and predictive astrology, especially in judgments concerning dignity, planetary condition, and longevity.
