Arabic Parts, also known as Lots, originate from Hellenistic and medieval astrology. Each part is calculated using a formula that combines positions such as the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant to produce a sensitive point in the chart. One of the most well-known is the Part of Fortune. These points are interpreted symbolically, offering additional layers of meaning related to topics such as prosperity, relationships, or purpose. In Medieval astroloegy, Arabic Parts are calculated points derived from mathematical relationships between planets, angles, and other significant chart positions.
These points, also called lots, were inherited from Hellenistic astrology and greatly expanded in Arabic and Medieval astrological traditions. Each part corresponded to a specific topic, such as fortune, marriage, children, illness, travel, or death, and was calculated using established formulas. Medieval astrologers interpreted the sign, house placement, ruler, and aspects of a part to refine judgment concerning the matter it represented. Arabic Parts became an important component of natal, horary, and predictive astrology.
