Bod-y
/ˈbɑː.di/
-
The physical sphere of a planet, as distinguished from its ray or light, which forms an aspect.
-
A term referring to the physical person of the native, often signified by the Ascendant and its ruling planet.
In traditional astrology, the term Body has two primary uses. The first distinguishes a planet's physical mass from its influence, or Light, which is cast through an aspect (sextile, square, etc.). A Bodily Conjunction refers to the meeting of two planets' spheres, while an Applying Aspect refers to the meeting of their rays. The second, and more common, usage of Body in context refers to the physical life and form of the native. The condition, placement, and lord of the Ascendant (First House) are the main significators of the native's Body, providing information about their health, physical appearance, vitality, and general disposition. Therefore, the phrase "affliction to the body" means a difficult planetary influence to the Ascendant or its ruler.
