flow·ing a·way
/ˈfloʊ.ɪŋ əˈweɪ/
“Flowing away” (aporrhoē in Greek) is a Hellenistic term describing the relationship between two planets based on their order within the zodiac. It occurs when a faster-moving planet separates from a slower planet, moving forward in zodiacal order, thus “flowing away” from it.
This concept is central to understanding aspect dynamics in Hellenistic astrology. A planet flowing away from another has received influence but is now carrying that influence forward into other parts of the chart. Unlike modern separating aspects (based on degrees), flowing away focuses on zodiacal order and planetary speed, revealing how influences unfold over time within the native’s life or a specific inquiry.
